The Michael J. Entringer Scholarship Classic is a boys and girls basketball classic that is put on by the Region II (and beyond) Basketball Officials. It is in remembrance of Mike Entringer, who passed away in 1990 – he was both a basketball and football official. The funds raised from these Classics are used to reward student/athletes with scholarships.
There are 20 participating area schools that take part. The funds to offer these scholarships are raised from these communities collecting advertisements and sponsorships that are presented in the classic program. Also, a silent auction, raffle, hoop shoot, along with other miscellaneous acts help provide the scholarships.
In 1994, the 1st year scholarships were given out – 2 were awarded at $250 each. In 2023 – 54 were awarded at $1000 each. A total of 1219 student/athletes have been awarded with a scholarship, totaling $1,080,000 in total scholarships over the years.
